Two examples from Netherlands show: (1) a partial opening of the 8km-long Brouwersdam, for protection, water quality improvement, and tidal energy generation (in the opening of the dam) and (2) Project "Ijsseldelta": Re-creating a river floodplain for protection from future climate change impacts. Main measure is a big river-bypass, with a super-dyke along it, with large housing areas on top. |
Gaining ground: wetlands, hurricanes, and the economy: the value of restoring the Mississippi River Delta | Batker, D., Torre, I. D., Costanza, R., Swedeen, P., Day, J. W., Boumans, R., & Bagstad, K. | USA | Flooding |
Benefit assessment with the aim to assess the ecosystem services provided by the Mississippi River Delta |
Gebiedsontwikkeling Perkpolder | Grontmij Nederland bv | Netherlands | Flooding |
A Cost benefit analysis (CBA/BCA) was conducted to assess the costs and benefits of managed realignment against flooding and to create new natural and human environments. A new dyke was built landwards of the old, which gets breached to create wet habitat. This BCA was conducted without benefits for mitigation against flooding. |
