Coastal wetland restoration and managed realignment
Coastal wetlands include saltwater and freshwater wetlands located within coastal watersheds. Wetland types found in coastal watersheds include salt marshes, bottomland hardwood swamps, fresh marshes and mangrove swamps. Restoration of wetlands including managed realignment of dikes increase the coastal floodplain for severe flooding and storm events. Managed realignment includes the opening of coastal dikes or dams.
